Topic 3 – BSL Act 2022

The British Sign Language (BSL) Act 2022 is UK legislation that puts BSL on a statutory footing by legally recognising it as a language of England, Wales and Scotland and not just a formal government statement. It also requires key government departments to report on how they promote and facilitate the use of BSL in public communications and to issue guidance on improving accessibility for BSL users. The aim is to help make government information and services more inclusive for Deaf people who use BSL as their main language.
